Vacation in Tokyo
It looks like with my wife we will go for vacation two last weeks of April. We will have rather tight schedule, visiting all these old castles, shrines, temples, etc but surly we will practice aikido few nights.
One of friends from French aikido forum will be with us heading to Hombu aikikai, Iwama, may be H. Tada sensei dojo, and…… I was thinking about a surprise visit to Michael Stuempel yoshinkan dojo. Any volunteers to practice together are very welcome. This is not official Tokyo Aikiweb Expo, rather friendly practice different aikido styles. Let's go from dojo to dojo, exactly like in old good days, to learn aiki secrets….That will be really cool.
I know that you guys in Tokyo are working hard, but hey, spring time, cherry blossom, arriving new fresh gaijin, some quite good reasons to change your routine!
Best regards

Re: Vacation in Tokyo
Hey!
That'd be cool!
Unfortunately I am in Hawaii for the last week of April, but you can still go to the dojo and train. You would be very welcome. If you can make it before that last week I'd be happy to try and steal your secrets too...

Re: Vacation in Tokyo
Japan is fantastic, you ppl should go for sure, once in your life. What a great culture.
Unfortunately, we can't do aikido very often over here, that's too bad!

Re: Vacation in Tokyo
I did seminar with Tada sensei a Hombu aikikai, and to my best surprise I met Peter from Hiroshima and Alec from Nederland. We had really wonderful time.Tada sensei aikido is very high level, but I'm not sure about Peter's japanese language skills...... Waiter had to explain him the menu in the bar LOL
Today my wife did excellent class in Kodokan, what a wonderful vacation!!!

Some instructors require some kind of introductions, but generally I never had any problem to practice in the dojo of different styles.

Re: Vacation in Tokyo
Just a note on names:
皇道館 - Koudoukan, "House of the Imperial Way*", Aikido dojo in Okazaki.
講道館 - Koudoukan, "House of Instruction of the Way", Judo Hombu Dojo.
*That's based on using the translation of the attested compound 皇道. However, I think it's probably likely here that the sense of 皇 is that of "wandering without a destination", so that 皇道 would roughly mean "road, way with no destination".
Have you heard anything specific on a translation, Jon?

Actually it was, but by distribution between dojo. I have to say it was awesome!
Don't worry though, there is the Gozo Shioda Memorial on 15 July this year, just go to our website www.kenshinkai.org.uk
If anyone gets the chance to train with Mustard Sensei, do it! He is great! And such a nice guy too. I had the oppotunity to talk with him and raise a beer or two last night. Top bloke!

Re: Vacation in Tokyo
I still did'nt have much time to write a revue about our travel, will come in few days. For the moment I uploaded some photos here
http://www.imagestation.com/album/pi...?id=2106724791
There are photos as we are searching Iwama dojo and after Tada sensei seminar in Tokyo with Peter and Alec....Unfortunatly I don't have photos from practice
Now I'm working on video.
Anybody knows where I can upload few Gigs of video?

Re: Vacation in Tokyo
Szczepan-
I've had pretty good luck using things like http://www.youtube.com or or http://video.google.com/ to share videos. Problem is most have a 100 mb video size limit, but they're free and you can upload as many clips as you want.
Generally I will resave my raw movie files using Windows Media Player into a lower quality, smaller screen size format to preshrink them, split them into smaller clips if necessary, and then just put them up on one of those sites.

Re: Vacation in Tokyo
Szczepan, Glad you had a good time...looking at the pics just now...
PLease, please write a blog on keiko with Tada Sensei...I've heard so much about him, and seen clips of him doing amazing things with his uke! One day I hope to feel his aikido. Did you get to take ukemi for him? Can you describe?
Best,
Ron (hi Don! Yep, good aikido in Paris... )
