This story entitled "Middle school-based Aikido Club offers more than self-defense" re-introduces us to the Aikido Club at Pierce Middle School in Redford, Michigan (prior thread on article, now no longer accessible, here). From the article:
The 15 or so students who show up after school two days a week are led by sensei Bill Triolet, a blackbelt in Aikido and a language arts teacher at Pierce. He's assisted by fellow teacher, Rich Bacolor.
Alex Dowden, a sophomore at Thurston High, has been part of the Aikido Club for all of its five years. [...] "I think I've gotten a lot more confident," Dowden said. [...] Triolet has seen big changes in Dowden over the years. "She's come a long, long way. She wouldn't say boo to a ghost," he said.
