A story I was reminded of in another thread...

A friend of mine trains with a teacher who's into kickboxing and a dew other things too. One day, during (I believe) a randori, his teacher caught him off guard slightly by producing a set of practice (light and foamy?) nunchukas from his sleeve and hitting him.
So.....
Has your teacher ever done something really _ODD_ in class without warning?

I don't know about odd but definatly surprising. I mean he has always brought knew things into the dojo such as nunkukas or chinease fans or other such weapons for training with. Does that count as odd. Then there are the time when we would train outside. In the winter he would spray the ground so that a layer of ice would form and we would train on the ice. Times like those made you happy you could break fall and real unhappy if you couldn't. He does do these little surprises duering training such as pulling out a rubber or dull metal training knife and poking us with it. He feel that it helps prepare us for such surprises in real world fights. However he only goes this fair because many of his students are former military or futer law enforcement such as myself. He also doesn't stand on the side and coach when we train on ice. He's there on the ice with us. He just maneges to keep his balance better than I do.

This is not quite along the same lines as the original post but its still "odd". One night I was observing a class at a dojo that want mine and I watched a randori with jo's so this went on for a while until the instructor decided to join the attack. With out looking she reached over and grabed what she thought was a jo but it was really a broom. So for the rest of the night she used a broom instead of a jo.
