[edit] Tenchi nage
Tenchi nage ("Heaven and Earth Throw") is a type of throw executed from ryotetori. Similar movement can be used for other attacks, but this is not usually called tenchi nage. For instance, katatetori irimi zuki can be quite close to tenchinage.
[edit] Ryotedori Tenchi nage, #1
From gyakuhanmi, uke grabs nage's wrists. Nage then moves his or her front foot forward and to the side, creating a space he or she can then step through with the back foot.
On the first step, nage spreads his or her arms, splitting uke's energy: the front hand ("earth") is low and palm down, almost supporting uke with upward pressure, while the upper hand ("heaven") is tegatana forward and high. It is important for nage to make a large movement.
On the second step, nage sweeps his or her hands together, as though "squeezing a billows." This should focus the energy of the movement into uke's chest through his or her arms, projecting uke backwards. The proper ukemi is a jumping-back back breakfall, or uke may turn and execute a high fall.
Ideally, uke should hold on tightly, so that uke almost pushes himself or herself up against nage's hands. (In "reality," this may be an involuntary response.) If uke releases his or her grip, it is not hard to break uke's balance and throw regardless, because nage has stepped behind uke and has an arm across uke's body.
