[edit] Takeji Tomita
"A small man with an enormous charisma. He has dark, piercing eyes, his posture is proud and he seems to have a sixth-sense that understands everything that’s going on in the room."
Dagens Nyheter 95.01.29
Takeji Tomita Sensei was born on the 3rd February 1942 in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka, Japan and is an 8th dan shihan.
Tomita Sensei started training Aikido at university and later deepened his knowledge under Osensei M.Ueshiba (1883 " 1969), the founder of Aikido, at his Iwana dojo north of Tokyo.
Tomita sensei also became a uchideshi of O'sensei [[MoriheiUeshiba|Morihei Ueshiba] (1883-1969).O'sensei Ueshiba was at the time active and led very disciplined practice. Tomita sensei spent in total 7 years at the Iwama dojo. In 1969, aged 27 and newly graded to 4th Dan by Ueshiba, Tomita Sensei was invited to move to Sweden to open his own dojo.
Tomita Sensei has for the most part been active in Sweden, but he has also taught in other European countries, Russia, the USA and Canada. He has at the same time deepened his knowledge in anatomy, physics and concentration techniques. In 1992 Tomita decided, in consultation with Saito Sensei, who had been his teacher during and after his time with O'sensei Ueshiba, to go his own way. After having lived in Sweden for more than twenty years, Tomita had seen changes in European Aikido that diverged too much from the original form.
Tomita sensei says:
"We should never forget the original purpose of budo, otherwise what’s left are childish games that only imitate the adult’s seriousness. Modern day development has unfortunately taken this direction, maybe most extremely in Aikido. We have forgotten that it is self-defence."
Takemusu Aiki Tomita Academy has been grounded to preserve budo’s origin.
