[edit] Mitsunari Kanai

Mitsunari Kanai was one of the last uchideshi of the founder of Aikido, Morihei Ueshiba.

He came to the United States in 1965 to open a dojo (New England Aikikai) in the area of Boston Massachusetts. Kanai was instrumental in founding the United States Aikido Federation, and was the Technical Director for the eastern United States. Aikido's World Headquarters in Tokyo had awarded him the title of Shihan, and the rank of eighth degree black belt.

Mitsunari Kanai died March 28, 2004 of a heart attack in Toronto, Canada, where he had been teaching a seminar. He was 64.
