We are delighted to announce a seminar with Mary Heiny Sensei August 9-11, 2013 at Aikido of Madison. Heiny Sensei has intensively studied aikido for more than 40 years leading her to a deep understanding of the power of this art. In this seminar she will explore with us the concept of: "Masakatsu Agatsu Katsuhayahi” a favorite expression of O Sensei. John Stevens (O Sensei's biographer and writer on aikido) this as "true victory, self victory, day of swift victory." Hikitsuchi Sensei shared with Heiny Sensei the instruction he had from O Sensei concerning this phrase: "Find your life's mission, overcome the ego and experience victory that is beyond space and time."

Everyone is welcome-beginners and instructors alike, no matter what affiliation--do not feel shy about attending. If you need assistance with lodging or any other questions, do contact us.

Pre-registration for this seminar is required. We are unable to offer partial registration for the seminar, but you may of course split your registration with someone--just make sure to indicate both names if you are splitting a seminar with someone else.

We are delighted to let you know that in conjunction with William Reed Sensei we have finalised the seminar programme and location for his visit in August as Maruyama Sensei's representative to Australia for this year. This year is the 10th anniversary of Aikido Yuishinkai in the West, under the foundation leadership of Williams Sensei. Reed Sensei will take us on a tour de force of Aikido Yuishinkai to celebrate the occasion.

Seminar Programme
'The evolution of Aikido Yuishinkai' seminar explores its roots and latest developments, from someone there from the beginning, as encouragement to press on as the school continues to mature and develop.

This unique insight is the perfect accompanyment to our daily practice giving us a richer understanding of Maruyama Sensei's journey to form and develop Aikido Yuishinkai right from his early days with the founder. The aiki arts arrived through direct transmission to us from the Sokaku Takeda, along the way drawing influences from many other teaching. While Eastern audiences seek to practice as the teaching requires, in the West an understanding of 'Why' is often an unspoken and unasked question. As a bridge between East and West Reed sensei can help us cross this chasm and understand more the beauty and richness of Aikido Yuishinkai through tracing the path of evolution with a sprinkling of humour and anecdotes along the way. please see the reed13.aikidorepublic.com for the seminar programme

Sensei will examine many of the facets of Aikido Yuishinkai and illuminate with deeper meaning through cultural and root art context the purposes of the practice.

Koji Yoshida Sensei (7th dan Aikido, 7th dan Aiki Toho Iaido, 6th dan Musoshinden-ryu Iaido) was a personal student of Shoji Nishio Sensei for over 34 years and was designated by Nishio Sensei as his official representative to the U.S., France and Ukraine on Nishio's final visit to the U.S. in 2000. He has continued to evolve Nishio's teachings forward in a logical, elegant and effective manner. Every year we see Nishio's vision grow exponentially in the hands of Yoshida Sensei and this year was no exception. Those who missed this year are missing a major point in the evolution in aikido. Prior to Nishio's passing in 2005, Yoshida promised to travel to the U.S. for 10 years, so there may only be 2 more years to experience this important teacher. Be sure to watch for his next visit to California in 2014.
