Covers the 7 main kumitachi (bokken partner exercises) and the main kumijo (jo partner exercises). Also has about 3 or 4 variations on each kumitachi - mainly changing a weapon orientated finish to disarming someone with the bare hands. This is very important if you wish to see where some of the aikido techniques derive from (in terms of weapon taking). Also there are jo and bokken relationships (i.e. partner excercises where one is armed with jo, and another with bokken) and jo taking excercises.

This is not recommended for beginners who cannot competently do the jo and bokken suburi. The techniques are illustrated as a series of clear photographs and with short explainations of each movement. However it only serves as a guide. Practical experience in several kumitachi, jo work and jo taking is necessary to get the most out of this book. However it is undoubtedly a great reference book (the best I've seen) for partnered weapon work in aikido. If you're buying this book you'll no doubt know that Saito is the authority in this area.
