Description: ow Aikido has changed the lives and thoughts of 20 prominent American Aikido students and teachers. They • describe experiences with Aikido's founder • discuss Aikido's philosophy • explore the warrior spirit • relate Aikido to therapy, law enforcement, Taiko drumming and community building

Generally understood as a martial art, Aikido goes beyond self defense, transforming practicioners by changing their relationships to other people, attitudes toward violence, connections to the environment, and the focus of their lives. These interviews originally appeared in Aikodo Today magazine.

I really enjoyed reading this book because I got to see many different perspectives and histories of well-known Aikido figures in America. I especially liked that each interview talked about how the person started Aikido and what their journey has been. Many of the people interviewed were teachers and students of each other and it was fun to see how and when their paths crossed and influenced each other.

Being a beginner in Aikido, only familiar with my own teacher and school of training, it was helpful to me to read stories from teachers in other styles talk about what was important to them and how they viewed Aikido.

A good read!
