Pros:
Cons:

My dojo has a lot of weapons from California S&P on our weapons rack. Several months ago, as I prepared to attend my first weekend weapons seminar, my sensei told me that he thought this particular bokken would be a good fit for me. It turns out he was right and I have grown particularly fond of it. Sensei was about to place an order and I decided it was time to purchase my own bokken after two years of training. The timing worked out wonderfully because the owner of the bokken I was using (his son) is taking it with him back to college.

This bokken is imported from Japan and is made of white oak. It is approximately 40” in length and is a bit on the lighter side for a bokken. If you prefer to use a heavier bokken, this may not be for you. Despite the lighter weight, this bokken can hold its own against a heavier weighted bokken during partner exercises and forms.

If you want a tsuba on this particular bokken, you will have to buy a tsuba and two rubber stoppers. The tsuka is no thicker then the blade, so the tsuba does not butt up against the wider tsuka, hence needing two stoppers instead of one.

The price of the bokken (as of 12/23/10) is a little over $60. In my opinion, it is a nice midrange bokken and is great for beginners or advanced students alike. People in my dojo seem to be pleased with the weapons (bokken & jo) they have purchased from this retailer and often purchase from them again when they want a new weapon.
