The more you embrace the principles of falling, the more you will improve your abilities in Aikido. Ukemi: For Aikido and Other Martial Arts offers a step-by-step instruction on the most common falls including backward rolls, forward rolls and breakfalls/highfalls. Bruce Bookman, 5th Degree Black Belt and Chief Instructor of the Seattle Holistic Center teaches falling techniques that can be adapted to any style of Aikido. Video tape is excellent. Unlike other videos where you watch and watch and still don't get it. Sensei Bookman sysmatically breaks down how to take a fall. As a new student I really hated my first few weeks of Aikido I was sore and always getting hurt. after watching and practicing his techiniques, although I am not as fluid as I'd like to be I am not getting hurt and truly enjoying practice now. Now that I know how to fall, kinda of, I can focus more on the techinique. Thanks Sensei Bookman, I will purchasing part II in a few weeks. I wish he would come to New York and give a seminar on Ukemi.

Pros: Great explanations of how to do several types of falls
Cons: would have liked to see some slow motion footage.

I picked this up on Amazon.com for $35. It said it was in VHS format but I was pleasantly surprised to receive a DVD instead. DVD menu breaks it down to sections so you can easily get to and view a specific fall.

As a beginner and needing help whit Ukemi I found this a very helpful resource. Not only do we get to see the correct way to do front and back rolls and break falls but also he takes time to show the wrong positions of the body and explain why we would want to avoid them. I was able to learn a few things about my own mistakes in the first viewing that will help me to improve.
