The book was pretty good. Some nice variations of techniques I haven't seen before. Some stuff seemed a little "flowery" but overall it wasn't bad. The thing that stuck me the most was the beginning chapters. I can't recall on what page, but Kisshomaru really played down the Daito-Ryu influence on Aikido. He more or less said that O'Sensei was exposed to many other martial arts (blah, blah, blah). It doesn't suprise me though. I would recommend it for beginners. For what it is worth.

Pros: clear photographs; covers basics very well for typical aikikai \"style\"; good for beginners and for intermediate to review basics
Cons: you will need to possess a basic understanding of the techniques to understand the descriptions as the descriptions are not to detailed

I would recommend this book if you practice an Aikikai style. Doshu demonstrates larger circular movements. An omote and ura opening is usually provided. The photographs are clear and are easy to follow; however, the descriptions can be hard to follow. So some basic understanding of the technique would be needed. If you are getting ready for your first test in aikido, you should be able to understand it though. You can also go to Amazon.com to view the table of contents and the first few pages of the book to give yourself and idea of what the book is like. The price is fair and reasonable. I have often seen this book at local bookstores like Barnes and Nobles so you shouldn\'t need to order it from online.
