Pros: informative, trustworthy and historically interesting
Cons: photos not that sharp, typography confusing at times

Kisshomaru doshu's standard book on aikido has come in many editions. I guess the first one was in the 1960's. I have one from 1974, which I have had very good use for through the years. The techniques, principles and terminology are all explained in a straightforward way. The multitude of photos actually makes it possible to figure out how to do the techniques shown. And the ukes are Chiba sensei and Tamura sensei in their young years - that alone reason to get the book. But most of all I cherish the book for the very last chapter, a memoir from Osensei, where he explains in bold words how he relates aikido to life, love, and the universe.
