Aikido Student Suffers Brain Aneurysm, Needs Help
Posted 12/30/2002 10:46am [from Jun Akiyama]
I've been asked to post the news that a couple of weeks ago, "Barbara Bowen-Kelso suffered two ruptured brain aneurysms last week. She was life flight lifted to Dallas TX for emergency brain surgery and is currently in the hospital and will be throughout the holidays. She appears to not have any permanent brain damage at this time. She is not out of the woods however as vasospasms can cause a stroke. She is at the highest risk period right now. Unfortunately, her health insurance was to go into effect January 1st, 2002-talk about bad timing. Medical bills are expect to reach $100,000 before this is over. They were only able to repair one of the aneurysms due to her being weak and the other being in a difficult location and smaller." Barbara is an aikido shodan training in Midland, Texas. Please read this thread for information on how you can help. My thoughts go out to Barbara, her friends, and her loved ones and am hoping for a full recovery. Update: AikiWeb will be holding an online auction to help out with the Barbara Bowen medical fund. I'm looking for folks willing to pitch in for the auction. More information about this here.
