I saw a similar demonstration of this in person in Corpus. One minute everything is still, next minute... uke flies! Incredible to see...

I wish I had a proper name for this. I do know that it is very real. Shihan literally explodes when doing this technique. I hope to be in good enough shape, that the next seminar I attend of his... I can take more ukemi from him.

He is truly incredible.

jester,

That wasn't me, thank goodness! I couldn't take ukemi for that to save my life... which it would have to do. LOL

Actually, just got back from a seminar with Shihan and I think this throw is from a ryokatate dori kokyunage type throw. Shihan is big on warm-ups with the "rowing exercise" (I forget the japanese term) and it is with that exercise that this throw comes from. VERY strong. VERY powerful.

How could one ukemi when put into this situation?

This would be quite a hard fall...

Do you have any more archive of Kato Shihan?

More pictures of Kato Shihan will be coming up in October 2006. He will be teaching a seminar here in Midland, Texas, so I imagine many more photos will be on the way.
