This is a photo of Bashar Ahmed, Iraqi yudansha, teaching class at the Awassa Peace dojo, in Ethiopia.
Bashar Ahmed was a valued sensei of the Baghdad Ki Center, a dojo supported by California aikidoka. Following personal threats, the murder of his father, and the “disappearing” of his brother, he fled to Jordan where he stayed, without official status, for eight months. Helped to move on by Aiki Extensions, he was required by Jordanian officials to hand over all his transition funds in order to board the plane. As an AikiCorps volunteer at the Awassa Peace Dojo in Ethiopia, Bashar lacks only in funding for mats and uniforms. See www.aiki-extensions.org for more info. All donations are tax-deductible.
