I'm a hobbyist musician, and I'm the same way
I have a punk/hardcore band, and I compose electronic on my computer (dance, trance, drum n bass, chillout, hip hop), and when i listen to other people's music, it's most often in those genres.

Re: Music?

Checked Sigur Ros out yet Krysten?

Johnny Cash - American V: A Hundred Highways.
Ben Kweller - Sha Sha.
Ben Kweller - Phone Home E.P.
Glassjaw - Worship & Tribute.
Head Automatica - Popaganda.
Roy Orbison - The Sun Collection.
Radiohead - OK Computer.

I've been on holiday so I havent been listening to much and havent had many cd's with me. Still got all those ones I ordered a few weeks ago to listen to over the next few days, cant wait! I also just ordered 'Rainer Ptecak (spelling?) - 17 Miracles: The Best Of Rainer', he was an americana/blues singer/songwriter who was apparently amazing and very inventive, I believe he died in the late 90's sadly. I heard some very good things about him so I've took a chance on this new best of collection, I love doing that - Checking something out on reccommendation or by association with another artist/genre I like or just because it has great cover artwork. You can find some great things like that.

I used to like Staind quite a bit. Aaron has a nice voice, but it seems that most of their songs are about rejection and despair. My life is going really well right now, so I guess I can't identify as well as I used to. (Something to be happy about, I suppose.)

I think that, shortly before writing these songs, Nina had her friggin' heart broken. It's good stuff, but not the hard guitar she wrote for Veruca Salt. If you're lookin' for soft music, it's really good.
