Re: ukemi grace
Shamelessly plagarizing/editing to personal taste from the alternate versions:
Ukemi grace, how sweet the sound
that hits the mat lightly;
I have been tossed, but now rebound,
unwind, and stand up free.
'Twas grace I saught, to guard my rear,
and grace I have perceived;
how precious did that grace appear
the first time I was heaved.
To many nikkyos, pins so fierce
I feared I would succumb;
'twas ukemi kept my wrists intact
with taps that nage wrung.
Backward rolls left me confused
with not the slightest clue -
then one day I was thrown full force
and then my body knew.
Sensei says 'soft' comes by degree
his word my hope secures
so here I lay flat as can be
honing uke powers.
When I have trained many more years
rolling will still be fun
I will have released pertinent fears
of nage's gattling gun.
anybody else?
There's still room for improvement: more stanzas, more edits? 'atemi' and 'ukemi' would make a good rhyme...
