Re: Yellow belt requirments

I can see how that might cause confusion :-)

We donīt have any red belts at all, apart from the red and white one for sixth dan and above, which is optional (and I believe no other organisation has that, or am I wrong?).

I've never heard of that in aikido before, but it is the norm in judo. The red/white belt is usually kept for special occasions (sort of like a Yoshinkan instructor's hakama), generally people just wear a black one.

Re: Yellow belt requirments

Ive heard of it before, there was an 8th dan in england who wore a red and white belt, he died a few years back. I also think Vince Thompson sensei may have been wearing one when he taught once? Although it could have been either Shihan Bayliss, Shihan Smith or Terry Ezra Sensei, my memory is a little fuzzy on this

Re: Yellow belt requirments

I haven't ever seen Ezra sensei in a red and white belt, I think it must have been someone else...

Re: Yellow belt requirments

it doesn't matter to most people in our dojo. The yodansha just wear hakama with a white or black belt. MOst choose black, but that's because it blends with the black hakama better
