Aikido Videos on the Web.

Yahoo's search engine is now offering a video option. I just did a search on Aikido videos and it returned 2,515 results. Go to www.yahoo.com, click on video and enter "Aikido" or just click the link below:

It's bad enough I spend so much time on this forum, now it will be ages before I do anything productive while I watch all these Aikido videos

Re: Aikido Videos on the Web.

Hi Joost,

Great find, youre too right about the potential for wasting time though. I really enjoyed watching this clip:

www.onlisareinsradar.com/archives/
foo_camp_2003/index.php

two guys doing some light resistance sparring (i.e. hikitate geiko), interesting to see the guy in black reverse out of an iriminage. I believe he was able to back out because tori didnt have control of his neck, what they call "the friendly arm" at my dojo. maybe too much reliance on the unfriendly arm?

cheers

Re: Aikido Videos on the Web.

Some good technique applied but those guys really don't know how to attack someone. IMHO, In this type of randori, good tsuki and geri should start the attack. If you not have to dodge a punch or a kick in randori, the attacker don't do his job the correct way...

Re: Aikido Videos on the Web.

Hi Dominic,

In tomiki aikido I think youre only going to see attacks with full intent to strike in tanto randori. This is when one partner tries to score tsuki strikes with a bendy rubber tanto against the other. In shiai clean strikes are actually awarded points.

In the kind of randori you see here the point is to blend and hopefully reverse techniques. The attack serves to initiate the link, but then the actual training is in trying to succesfully complete a technique while the opponent is trying to pull of some reversals i.e. ura waza of his own.

That might not be what theyre doing but thats what it seemed like to me!

cheers
