I've only just taken up Aikido (my first martial art) and I'm enjoying it greatly after a few lessons. I originally chose Aikido because of its softer style and strong philosophical element.
However, I'm thinking of moving in around 12 months (to go to another university) and have more options for taking different martial arts (options here are very limited).
Down there, I can continue with my current style (Aikido Yuishinkai), take a different Aikido style (Aikikai or Yoshinkai), take Aikido and Iaido or take a new art altogether - Tae Kwon Do, Karate, Judo, Kendo, Tai Chi or Wing Chun.
I would love to continue Aikido, but it would mean a fair bit of travel in an unfamiliar city, and/or possibly changing styles (would this mean starting again from a lower kyu?). The benefits of taking a new art (aside from Iai) are that they are all affiliated with the uni, so meaning little/no travel.
What are your opinions? Is it worth starting a new art after only a year of Aikido, or should I stick with Aikido, but lose convenience?
If I hange arts/styles, which is the best in your opinions?
Thanks for any advice offered
