Need help finding a dojo in kyoto

Hey guys,
I'm going on an exchange to kyoto for six weeks in late december and am having trouble findinga dojo. If anyone could recommend one and possibly send me the training times(hopefully one with late afternoon/evening classes) that would be great. Any info is much appreciated!

Six weeks is pretty short. This may not be the best option.

Re: Need help finding a dojo in kyoto

Thanks Peter, I know six weeks isnt long but I'm keen to train as much as possible wherever I am. If anyone else knows of any dojos(possibly ones which are more private and not advertised?) i woundn't mind hearing of it. should I get a letter of introduction from my shihan here? would it be a necessary formality? all helps appreciated!

Here's an option.

Class hours are not exactly convenient, but perhaps something will work out.

Try the Budo Center - you can get their schedule there.

Here's a few more

Are you in an Aikikai affiliated dojo? If you have a Japanese Shihan and he is willing to provide a letter of introduction, that may well help, but, you shouldn't have any problems joining any of these places anyway, other than language issues if you don't speak Japanese.

Regards

Bryan

A difficult problem is easily solved by asking yourself the question, "Just how would the Lone Ranger handle this?"

Doesn't your Japanese Shihan have any suggestions? I've always found that a personal connection does wonders. The letter is just a letter.

Re: Need help finding a dojo in kyoto

He's located in another part of New Zealand so it'll take him a wee while to get back to me on all the details( I'm communicating with him up the heirachy, through my sensei). I've been told that if i cant find anything myself he'll get in contact with people he knows in japan and provide me with a dojo, but that i should try pick one that appeals to me before asking him.
thanks again for all the help everyone!

I've got three Kiwi's practicing in my little group. If your business takes you south to Himeji you can always drop by.

If you get the chance to train here I'd go for it. Okamoto Sensei is fantastic! You won't regret it.

Cheers,

Matt.
