I see Aikido as the study of conflict resolution. There is nothing in this world that is 100%. I have heard this question asked time and time again by other people to me an to others and the best answer that I can give anyone is that there are no grantees in this world. Everything has its limits.

If you run across 10 people who have it in their mind that they want to kill you, then you are probably going to die. If you run across someone who is more tignish than you, more skilled than you, then you are probably going to loose.


Mostly what you are learning is how to resolve a conflict and how to deal with others in way that tries to minimize the risks both socially and situationally.

Alan Drysdale has written a good book on Aikido and this subject. He also teaches these things in his classes. I have taken many class under him where we have talked about it.
