Re: How much do you pay?

These replies dont tell about how much per hour people pay.

Although to me it is all relative to the training.

I think most people pay monthly dues and get unlimited classes, so the more you train, the less you pay per hour.

Re: How much do you pay?

7$ / month (3 days per week, 2 hours per day training)...for tests 15 $.
(it is so cheap because the municipality owns the dojo. Other private dojos costs about 45 - 100 $ per month)

Re: How much do you pay?

I pay $65 a month, on college student discount. Normal adult class is $90 a month. This includes, normally, four 75 minute classes (one additional hour long class for advanced students) and two weapons class (60min and 75min).

Similar in thought to what Jeremy Ross said, these fees are considered payments for the physical space, not for the instruction. They are fees to be paid regardless of whether you train once a month or every class. Your due to the instructor is respect and participation in all that the dojo offers/does, as much as possible. It is expected that you practice a minimum of twice a week when possible - a level of effort and interest to show that the instructor's time is worthwhile and that your presence is regular enough to be worthwhile to fellow students.

There is also a $20 insurance fee per year and a USAF yearly payment that are not included in normal mat fees.

Re: How much do you pay?

We're fortunate to only have to pay $25 per quarter-- that ends up being maybe $10 a month.

I practice aikido at a university club, which allows us to use university facilities.

The trivial answer is that the tuition is free. The more complete and truthful answer is that it's been quite expensive in all sorts of ways....

Re: How much do you pay?

At our dojo we charge $25 a month for students(4 hours worth of classes a week) , and $5 a week mat fee for visitors. The mat fee is something that I expect to pay whenever I go visiting, guess it's fairly common, at least everywhere I've been. Some places don't have a set fee, just suggest a donation for mat fee.

Re: How much do you pay?

one dojo I practice at is $10.00 a vist plus an initial registration fee that incls a gi.,
I understand that there are dojo that charge up to 200/ month in the ny metro area- but than look at real estate costs.
Frankly, I don't understand how the poor(emphasis on the word poor) guy can even pay his rent , and have anything to put bread on his table.
whenever, i visit a dojo in the area, as a courtesy i always insist on giving a $20.00 mat fee as a courtesy, usually sensai protests untill I tell them to shut up- they arnt driving a lexis, yet.
Saddly, aikido isn't the big bucks money maker like karate.
Maybe we need the "Flaming dragon aikido shool of ki " or " Cobra Sensai aikido accademy" Francised at 75 locations coast to coast...., I dunno, maybe ' "fukendodshi ryu and school of shiohonage"???

Re: How much do you pay?

USD $100.00 per month for unlimited training. That is 6 days a week right now. 1 1/2 to 2 hours a day. Your schedule permitting of course.

Re: How much do you pay?

There are about 20 hours of adult classes where I train per week. I paid annually this time so that calculates to about $0.77 per hour of training available...

I would hope that when you tell them to "shut up" it's done in a polite and respectful way. Not sure how I would react, but I'm pretty sure I know how the students would.Guess it depends on the context and situation.

amen brother.... glad I have a real job too.... when we started the dojo, we decided that it could either be a job that paid money, or a job that paid with the satisfaction of passing along what had been given to us. Glad we picked the latter.

Re: How much do you pay?

Our dojo charges $15 per month for 1 class a week, $30 a month for 2 classes a week, and $45 for 3 or more (could be up rto 12) classes a week. Testing is free. Uniforms cost around $9. Almost 70% of the worlds m.a. uniforms and belts are made here in Taiwan so its pretty cheap. (does anyone use Bokaido stuff?)

Re: How much do you pay?

We pay $65.00 a month for the use of the dojo space, Sensei teaches for gratis. Basically paying for the mat space, and the fees to the owners for the building. It is cool of Riggs sensei to teach for the love of the art, since it wouldn't pay his bills in this backwater.
Most buy uniforms through the web. (too pricey in -house)
Test fees go to the organization, as well as a portion to the owners of the taekwondo school we share space with.
Overall, it is kind of expensive, but if you love it.......
Lan

Play nice, practice hard, but remember, this is a MARTIAL art!
