request info about fune kogi

I'm doing some research about the fune kogi exercise, and there seems to be very little available, of much depth, that's written in English. I understand entire books have been written about this exercise in Japanese. Anybody have a lead on a translation, or another source? Thanks. MargDelG

I highly recommend that post...I printed it out and reread it from time to time. One day I hope to train with him to get a better understanding of some of it.

Re: request info about fune kogi

Forgive my ignorance: what is fune kogi? I gather it is some sort of exercise, can someone give me a brief description of how it is performed and what it is to accomplish?

Fune Kogi Undo is the boat rowing exercise. The foot work is like that of Shomen-uchi Ikkyo Undo. Hands are brought from the him toward the front with your hands curled back. It is like you are striking something in front of you with your wrists.

Concurrent post ^

Torifune ( fune kogi) is a rowing (as in similar too what is seen in competitive crew rowing) exercise.

Basically it teaches body movement - arms, legs, and torso to move in a way that can be beneficial to application of aikido techniques. However, it can be practiced in a more in-dept manner to develop breath , "strength," and mental control.

I have not done any of the aiki undo in a long time... Thanks for the link, guy.

I study the Korean version (Hapkido). Shomen-uchi Ikkyo Undo means as much to me as Fune Kogi did the first time
(not that it would help if you knew the Korean name, all our training is done in English)

I no longer participate in or read the discussion forums here on AikiWeb due to the unfair and uneven treatment of people by the owner/administrator.
