Exclamation Attn: Torontonians

Hi my name is Gerson and I am a newbie in aikiweb. I was just wondering how many of you posters live and practice in the great city of Toronto. I am recently looking for a dojo around the downtown area. Since I am new here also in Toronto, I would like to get to know people who practice and where they train. I would like to visit the aikido yoshinkai at 399 Yonge St. and would be visiting next week. If you practice in that dojo give me a holla.

GO LEAFS!

Hi Gerson,

Thank you for your introduction! Kimeda sensei is definitely a gem in Toronto. There are also a lot of other dojo in the city, though, so make sure you take a look around!

Re: Attn: Torontonians

Gerson,

There is a lot of really fine aikido in Toronto. I don't know the Yoshinkan folks, but know a number of Aikikai folks including Fran Turner Sensei and Bob Zimmerman Sensei, both of whom are excellent aikidoka and I would recommend either of them.

best, Rachel (from Michigan, but comes to Toronto often)

Hi Gerson,

Yes, I have met Kimeda sensei as well as Turner sensei. Both Fran Turner sensei and Robert Zimmerman sensei are in the AikiWeb Dojo Search Engine. Just search for their last name individually in the Instructor field. You can also do a search for "Toronto" in the city field.

Re: Attn: Torontonians

From a personal prospective, I know all of the following people and have found them all to be forthwright and sincere teachers. Fran Turner Sensei is a friend, and I give her five stars. Everyone on this list below bears checking out. There are also a bunch of Yoshinkai dojos in town, but I don't know any of the teachers personally, so maybe someone who does can speak up and give recommendations on that end.

You are lucky to be in a city with so much talent and diversity!

Re: Attn: Torontonians

just to comment on AYC, its a great place to train especially if you want to work hard. All 3 instructors there really know what they are doing, besides Kimeda whos 8th dan the other 2 are 5th and 6th dan respecively. They also have alot of black belts there which makes training easier because at the low kyus is always 1 on 1 with a senior. If u do decide to join, make sure you eventually get to a Fri. class and see if u can get through it without your gi looking like you just jumped in a pool
