Happy Birthday Steven Seagal!
I just read that today is his birthday on horoscope.com, so let's be nice to him! He gets his share of flack on this board, but it's his special day.
I for one wish him health and harmony.

One of my sensei trained with him once and said he was very good.

They're all screaming about the rock n roll, but I would say that it's getting old. - REFUSED.

Yeah, I don't understand why people pick on Steven Segal. After all, he has had a career in the CIA AND he is the reincarnation of a tibetan lama. Can't beat that combination.
So....Happy birthday to both a HOLY and VERY DEADLY person!!!!

Happy harmonious birthday, Segal sensei. BTW, Zach, I would not want to 'shomenuchi' you. No offense, my friend. Cheers!

I think people give him hell for two reasons:
1) He's pretty much the only famous aikidoka, and the movies he does are pretty violent and not all that aiki.
While I agree, I have a hard time being mad at him for it, because having made more "aiki" movies would probably not have gotten him the recognition that he has, and wouldn't promote aikido any beter than he has as things are. I think a lot of people have started aikido because of him, and I think that's great.
2) There's lots of conflicting information about his past and some people accuse him of making things up to sound tougher.
Who knows on this one. Just about everyone fudges their resume a little...

I've seen a rather long clip of him taken from his video documentary (Path beyond thought) and all I can say is that his aikido is awesome. This was taken from his pre-Hollywood days when he was still married to Fujitani Sensei and he was running their dojo. His quickness, tai sabaki, timing and power are very good.
With regards to his personal life, that's his business and I don't even want to touch on that.
