I just use a carpeted surface, like the living room. (You can roll on concrete if you have to, after all.)
If you want to practice high breakfalls, I've heard a good reccomendation - drag your mattress out into the hallway/living room/etc., and use that. Very bouncy and forgiving!
Personally, though, I don't do that many rolls at home.
Out of curiousity, why are you trying to make a mat-like surface at home?
