Hello folks . . .
This is my first post so please allow me to introduce myself.
My name is Morris and I and a veteran of the 101st Airborne Division. I spent two years in Korea studying Taekwondo and enjoyed the philosophy much more then the actually physical training. Punches and kicks just didn't do it for me.
I examined Judo and thought that might be the route for me but meanwhile I got married and had a wonderful daughter named Madison and completely forgot about the martial arts.
Now its years later and I am thinking I want to show my daughter there is more to life then what she sees in school.
I guess at this point I should also say I am a Buddhist, although not a good one. I still let the stresses of life dictate my actions . . . which is not good.
Anyway I found Aikido and did some web searching on it and said to myself . . . this is it. This is what I want to train my daughter in and it's what I want to explore as well.
My daughter was involved in Karate for about a year and she hated it cause the sensei was more concerned with training them to fight then he was with training the philosophy of mind and body together.

Re: Hello folks . . .
Hi Morris,
aikido is a great art to practice parent/child, you will both benefit form the time spent together.
I just watched 2 of my students grade ( father and son 50 and 20 years old respectively ) for their orange belt together. Good to see.
I wish you both well in your journey.
regards,
Mark

Re: Hello folks . . .
Welcome to Aikiweb, Morris.
I also rediscovered Marial Arts recently (after about 16 years!). I study Aikido with my 9-year old daughter and we both love it. The only problem is that I'll have to restrict how often she goes, 'cos she's currently better than me!

Re: Hello folks . . .
So sorry for the late response. I am not an avid participant of AikiWeb as a result of my limited free time. However, in my browsing today, I came across your inquiry on John Johnston Sensei. I happened to know him personally on two fronts. He is one of my Shiatsu instructor at the Baltimore School of Massage and Shiatsu and he is a very close friend on my Shihan. What ever you read on his resume, is true. Instead of me bragging about his abilities, personality, and his passion for the art, I encourage you to meet him and judge for yourself. He trainned at Hombo Dojo for some time while stationed in Japan and I think you will be exposed to, as well as learned, more than just "aikido". Good luck to you and stay on the path.
Respectfully,
Frank R.
