Confused Hello from Warwick

Hi,

just thought i'd introduce myself - i'm Liane.

i've been studying Kung Fu and Tai Chi for almost five years, and i just took up Aikido a year and a half ago. i've had a bit of a battle going on between my chinese styles and my Aikido, but that pretty much ended at training on Friday i'm now happy to report that i'm an aikido convert

also i'm writing an essay on 'healthy competition' in martial arts, so if anyone has any opinions it would be great to hear them

thanx,

-Liane

Aikido: a martial art which allows you to defeat your enemy without hurting him, unless of course he doesn't know how to breakfall in which case he will shatter every bone in his body when he lands. Also known as Origami with people

Hi Liane,

I'm very jealous of the martial arts definitions in your web-site, you'll be a great asset to any dojo - oh yes, some aikidokas have also been seen wearing kimonos for demos, tied the wrong way I might add.

Have fun with your people origami.

Just curious. What was it that "converted" you finally? You said that it happened in training on Friday... now I just need to know

Hi Liane,

Thanks for your introduction! Welcome to the AikiWeb forums.

As far as "competition" goes, have you tried searching these forums for that subject? We've had some great threads on such in the past. If you can't find them, I'll run a quick search (or I'm sure someone else will!) and give you the links to the threads.

Confused

Jeff - not really too sure. my teacher has been trying to explain things to me in terms of tai chi, which i guess helped. but i think something just clicked - you know that feeling that you've been stumbling round in the dark for ages and its really frustrating, and then something happens and you suddenly see what you've been doing wrong. we were practising yonkyo (sp?) on friday and i told teacher i didn't understand so he broke it down into little pieces, just like my kung fu master used to. and the best thing of all was that i saw everyone else in the dojo start to understand the technigue too

Jun - thanx, i'll take a look at the other forums...should be a good distraction from my coursework.
