me

Hi everyone

Just a little about me-

i'm 33 and been practising aikido for 5 years now, every week three times a week. my organization is a budo society so i also train in kendo and iaido, which i find helps my aikido a lot. I'm graded to first dan and i am the treasurer in the club and i also do the club website which you can see here.

i play saxophone- alto and tenor- just for my pleasure (and the neighbour's displeasure)

i live in Braintree, Essex, UK and work for the Environment Agency.

Braintree? Any idea of the etymology of that name? Do you have lots of trees that look like brains there, or is it more like "Man, they're so smart over yonder, it's like they got brains growin' on TREES. I reckon we'll call it Braintree."?

Welcome Owen,

I have been in Braintree once. Did not know there was a dojo there or I would have visited the dojo.

Maybe next time when I visit some friends in Rayne.

Enjoy and train

Hi everyone.

Kevin- Braintree apparently comes from the Old English and was pronounced something like Brion Tru, meaning meeting place or place of judgement- there is a river running through town and this was where all the local communities met or passed judgement on offenders. I'm sure you didn't want to know that really but as i knew anyway.......

Erik next time you are over look us up, all details are on the website- be really good to see you.

Rachel- Hope the new dojo is looking up, i read the forum thread about new members and visited the website
