Brain Aneurysm
One of my students, aikido shodan, and co-owner of our dojo, Barbara Bowen-Kelso suffered two ruptured brain aneurysms last week. She was life flight lifted to Dallas TX for emergency brain surgery and is currently in the hospital and will be throughout the holidays. She appears to not have any permanent brain damage at this time. She is not out of the woods however as vasospasms can cause a stroke. She is at the highest risk period right now. Unfortunately, her health insurance was to go into effect January 1st, 2002-talk about bad timing. Medical bills are expect to reach $100,000 before this is over. They were only able to repair one of the aneurysms due to her being weak and the other being in a difficult location and smaller.
Please send your positive healing thoughts, ki, meditations, and or prayers for her full recovery. If you are able to contribute even a small amount, a medical fund has been set up at a local bank which has graciously waived fees.

We also hope to do a fund raising seminar next year.
Thanks for any positive thoughts and assistance. This is legitimate by the way.

My thoughts go out to all who are affected by this event.
If might offer some advice, try paypal, I have heard rummor that paypal supports these type of actions and it provides convient access for those who would wish to contribute.

Hi folks,
I went and made this into a front-page news item with Lan's prompting. I hope it'll make a difference.
John, as Jonathan points out above, have you thought about opening up a PayPal account for this? It would probably make it easier for folks here on the AikiWeb Forums (as they're already connected to the Internet) to use PayPal to send donations.
In an effort to help, I'm willing to send the proceeds of the next five T-shirt sales ($75 total) to the aforementioend Barbara Bowen medical fund. If you're willing to help out, just head to the AikiWeb AikiStore, purchase a T-shirt there, and let me know either in the order or in e-mail at akiy@aikiweb.com that you'd like the T-shirt proceeds to go to the Barbara Bowen medical fund. Although I'd love to be able to offer more than five T-shirts, that's about all I can offer at this point...
I'll post again here when we've reached the five T-shirts sold. I hope it'll be very soon.
Regards,
-- Jun

Hi folks,
I've already received one T-shirt order, the proceeds of which will go to the Barbara Bowen medical fund. Thanks, Rob!

Thanks
Thanks for your support. I did notice an error-her insurance was to go into effect January 1, 2003.
I appreciate the positive responses, as does Barbara. She is home now and has some memory impairment which will require some rehab. She also has leg weakness and tires easily. The neurologist apparently told her that most with this type of aneurysm are paraplegic. She was real lucky to be where she is now.
Again, thanks for the ideas and support. Good things should happen to good people. Thanks especially to Jun for posting this and the ideas and support. Domo arigato gazaimas.

Hi John,
You're quite welcome. I hope you'll keep us apprised of Barbara's recovery which I hope will be swift and complete.
I also hope the raffle that we're putting on will work out as well. One can hope it won't go for naught.
Regards,
