Checking In

Well, today is my 59th birthday. Just wanted to check in. I'm still training. Just in BJJ rather than Aikido. Have a good one.

Re: Checking In

Happy birthday Greg!
Put in some circular movements, tenkan, and swoosh into full mount!
Keep on rolling

I actually incorporate quite a bit of aikido into my BJJ. Lots of guys get surprised when I escape their back mount with standard sankyo, they can't transition to mount, and I roll up into their closed guard and submit them right there with the sankyo. It's kind of funny.

Re: Checking In

cool! I'm sadly not good enough with sankyo to have that level of control. Plus I don't think the group I went with in the past allowed joint locks or finger grabs.

I used to find myself briefly using ikkyo a lot to surprisingly escape several bad positions, and an occasional koshinage.

And today, on my 52nd birthday, I return your check in. I'm still training in whatever it is that you'd call what I do. Not quite Aikido. Not quite not Aikido. Riding my bike almost every day, taking long walks with my dogs, and throwing around the kettlebells. Have a great one, Greg.
