Mary Heiny, 4th degree

On the last page of each issue of Black Belt magazine they recall contents of past issues. In the current issue (Feb/Mar 2018) they recall the issue of April 1979, including this:

"In response to a statement Akira Tohei made in the December 1978 issue -- ‘There are no professional women aikidoists -- a fourth-degree black belt named Mary Heiny writes in: ‘Imagine my surprise to read that I did not exist!' "

(Heiny Sensei's promotion to 7th dan was announced this month in the 2018 Kagamibiraki gradings.)

I love that response... And a hearty congrats to Mary Sensei on her well-deserved promotion.
