Doing Aikido after a brain injury?

I will preface this by saying that before we do anything we will check with her doctor.

My wife had a brain aneurysm in dec '14 / jan '15. She has undergone procedures to mitigate it. Since then the doctors have told her to exercise. I encouraged her to start doing yoga again, but se doesn't seem interested. Encouraged her to try Tai Chi with me, not interested. She's starting doing belly dance on the youtube recently I hope she keeps up with.

The other day I was packing my jo up for class and she said emphatically, "I want to learn some weapons!" I'm ecstatic. Who doesn't need a partner to do kumi jo with? I showed her some of the Saito Sensei weapons videos and she seems interested.

We have talked about her doing Aikido with me before and I would love for her to, if she's able. She thinks the rolls might be too much to mess with her head, but I think maybe a once a week in the park session of bokken and jo suburi, maybe some awase?

Anyone have any thoughts on that?

Weapons sounds great. I don't know what "mitigation" was done in terms of the aneurism but this longtime RN would only ever rely on the surgeon's advice on anything involving rolling and falls.

Re: Doing Aikido after a brain injury?

She had a coil embolization, no bleeding. I'm not trying to push her and I defiantly think we should get the doctors opinion, no question. I also have high blood pressure and I feel a little dizziness when I do a lot of rolling. Honestly though, I was hoping someone might see this and say hey, I had that happen and I do Aikido. I know with this sort of thing that's a long shot. :/
