Took a shot to the neck Sat - just now feeling it

Just wondering if someone else has taken a good hit to the neck and then it starts hurting a couple days later. I don't exactly know the technique that I took but I know that I got a good hit in the neck area which hurt for a bit and went away. Now its' back and I can't swallow without wincing. It doesn't feel like muscle strain it kinda feels like there's a rock near the center tube and it rubs around when I swallow. I have no problem talking or breathing just swallowing. I plan to go to the doctor no matter what advice I get here. I was just wondering if anyone else has gone through this.

Sure; I don't know the physiology exactly, but the neck is a major weak point in the human body. Sounds to me like just a bit of an interior bruise - a bit of swelling in the right spot (in this case, I think the esophagus) would be noticed much more than if it happened in, say, an arm. Understand, please - I really don't know anything about the anatomy, I've just been hit there a few times myself, and it feels pretty much like you described. IMO, it's not a problem, it'll go away by itself; the swelling is part of the healing process but there's certainly no harm in having a doctor check, just to be on the safe side.

Answers are only easy when they're incomplete.

Inflammation, swelling, probably a little whiplash...get to a chiropractic doctor, they're your best bet for properly diagnosing and treating injuries like this.

Just to clarify- chiropractors are specialists of the spine, not specifically the neck.

Unless your injury spine related, I wouldn't recommend going to a chiropractor. High velocity manipulation is not always a good thing.

Go to a doctor or nurse practitioner soon.

This is definately something that can't be figured out online, and you should not delay in having looked at. It could be due to any number of non-Aikido related causes, some of which are serious. If due to some sort of trauma (Aikido or otherwise) it is a serious complaint that could mean something that needs immediate attention.
