Dan Harden & Howard Popkin Aug 9-11 @OCAK

Dan Harden and Howard Popkin in Orange County August 9, 10 & 11

After a short text exchange with Dan this morning and after talking with Howard...one day attendance will be offered on Saturday only, cost for the one day (Saturday Only) will be $120. As with attendance for the whole weekend, coming only for Saturday will be by individual registration through Dan.

For those who thought to come, but could not clear their calendar for the whole weekend this is a good opportunity for exploring Aiki through the combining of Dan and Howard at one location and time. For those new to Howard Popkin one day would be a good start on getting to know him and his approach through Daito Ryu.

For the Friday evening the training will return to Seal Beach in the sand next to the pier. After training we can move to a local establishment near the pier for a cold one and a "little" conversation. If you have not signed up and plan to, please contact Dan quickly.

For those who need it I will provide direction for both the Friday location and the dojo itself.

Please register directly with Dan Harden at http://dojoseminars@gmail.com

Thanks
Gary

Re: Dan and Howard in Orange County :) August 9-11

Folks
Friday evening will be at the pier in Seal Beach, CA. The pier is at the end of Main Street 3 blocks in from Pacific Coast Highway (PCH). We will meet a 6:30 pm and move on down next to the pier in the sand. Move up later for a beer in one of the places along Main. Seal Beach is just south of Long Beach along the coast.

Saturday and Sunday at the dojo (Orange Country Aiki Kai) 610 E Katella Ave. Orange, CA, 92867
Phone: (714) 997-4861. The dojo in between the 57 and 55 freeways in Orange west of Tustin Blvd and east of Glassell Start should be 9:30am.

Re:cap

Friday night at the very cold Seal Beach

We did some paired push drills. Drank some beer, laughed.

Saturday - Met some new friends.
Did some paired push drills, a few waza, got hit a bit, Drank some beer , laughed.

Sunday -
Did some solo drills, a few paired push drills, a few waza, got hit a bit,Drank some beer, laughed.

Overview -
Welcoming people, great effort, not enough time, we all suck.

Almost a perfect weekend.

What Howard brought to the training was the easily visible relationship between Daito-ryu aiki-jujutsu and Morihei Ueshiba's vision of the art. Howard helped to clarify what "soft" really means and provided complimentary views to what Dan was bringing to the table.

What was very interesting is that what was being shown and trained was equally recognizable as applicable within each art whether it was Japanese or Chinese based.....weapons or empty hand.......

If the opportunity to spend time with Howard becomes available.....take it. If the chance to see both Howard and Dan together comes up make it happen...... whatever it takes on your part.

Gary

By the way Seal Beach wasn't that cold....more like cool once the Sun started dropping into the west....

Re: Dan and Howard in Orange County :) August 9-11

It was great as always, but made even better with Howard teaching as well. It was great working through some sequences where you could start with some of Dan's solo exercises, move on to daito ryu waza, then also see the exact same stuff "lurking" in traditional aikido waza. How the external appearance gave hints as to what should have been going on underneath in rather concrete terms. Been a good number of times now with Dan (so at least I understand what he's talking about rather than just standing there looking puzzled) but first time with Howard. Like Gary I'd recommend it to anyone.

It was also great to see new faces. And faces from some names here too. And I only got hit a few times...
