Smile Dave O'Brien (O'B)

Hello Everyone, this feels like walking to a strange dojo and not knowing anyone, but here goes.

I've been a student of aikdo for 20years and in 2008 I opened my own dojo. I live at Walney Island, Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England. If anyone is familiar with that location let me know. As a young lad I played Judo for many years and then as a young man I began playing professional rugby league, finishing that, at 26yrs I found Aikido.

My studies of aikido have taken me within Europe, favorite place Madrid with Tomas Sanchez and his sons David & Robert, Japan and Australia and of course within the UK. My hope is to make new connections, to explore ideas with the hope of developing my own and my clubs aikido.

Hello (or should I say "alright marra"?) from a fellow Cumbrian

I'm from up in Carlisle, but currently reside in Ibaraki, Japan. I was vaguely aware that there is some aikido to the south of the county although whenever I was home it was easier to nip over to the Northeast for training. I don't have any plans to return for a while but I'm pleased you're doing your bit for us Cumbrians.

I believe Andrew Ratcliffe runs an Aikikai (BAF) dojo in Appleby-in-Westmorland.

Not the easiest place to get to...

Hi Daz, I was hoping I'd bump into you sooner or later. Still finding my way around the site but I'm sure I'll get the hang of it soon.

Nice to know there more people doing Aikido in the northwest and not just the south and southwest, my loverrrrrrrrrr !!!!!

Thanks Alex, if I'm not mistaken Appleby is just before Penrith so it's not too far from me. Just over an hour or so in the car. So I'll keep that in mind and try and contact him after the New Year. Cheers mate.
