"Meet a veteran: Robert B. Burns"

Posted 2010-06-01 08:15:01 by Jun Akiyama

This article entitled "Meet a veteran: Robert B. Burns" highlights Robert Burns in Ledyard, CT, who is a Marine veteran and a 5th dan in aikido.

From the article: "It was a beautiful way to mold a warrior. The attention that we gave our drill instructors is something very hard to describe. It was a student/teacher relationship -- a beautiful, pure relationship. We came out of training like samurais, but we cried when we had to separate from our drill instructors. I don't think it's quite that way today. I was a corporal, but that was a big thing in those days, because they wanted to keep the ranks down. Today, there are many more people with fancy ranks."
