Re: Expereince of Getting Black Belt?
For what it's worth, I just took and passed my exam for shodan this past Saturday. It was a few years and lots of training in the making. The test itself lasted only for about 30 minutes but it seemed a lot longer than that. It's kind of hard to describe something if you haven't experienced it yourself

Re: Expereince of Getting Black Belt?
Hello Felipe,
I just checked your dojo website, you are affiliated to the Federacion Latinoamericana de Aikido, si you have ties to Yamada sensei. Since Yamada presided over my shodan test you may find it interesting to check it out. I started a thread a while back with links to my test on YouTube here:
http://www.aikiweb.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16040
I have to echo Rolf's comments, it's the years of training to get to the test that count. If your curious about the tests in you own group, ask your sensei or better yet make sure you are there the next time someone you know is testing. Overall, I wouldn't worry too much about the black belt, certainly not until sometime after you have achieved first kyu.

I agree, view your grades/ranks as a side effect of training rather than the goal.

Re: Expereince of Getting Black Belt?
Before you test and pass, train.
After you test and pass, train.
The training is more important than the rank.
(But well worth the time and effort.)

Yes, exactly.
To go along wi this - lately I've been reminding myself (and telling my students) that the reward for doing a technique well is that you get to do it again. The penalty for doing a technique badly is that you get to do it again.

Re: Expereince of Getting Black Belt?
Many people here have black belts in other arts as well, so some of them have went through this process more then once.
