AikiWeb Server Back Up

Hi everyone,

So, as you can tell, the AikiWeb server is now back up!

The server went down on Friday morning. Although I tried nursing it first by running down to Best Buy and swapping out its power supply, the server went down again a little later. Diagnostics lead me to believe that it was the motherboard; in addition, it looked like one of the drives was starting to fail, perhaps due to the recent few unclean shutdowns. I spent the last couple of days resurrecting the server by taking apart my personal home PC to use its motherboard and CPU, buying a few new hard drives (as the other ones were getting pretty old, too), and copying (dump/restore) the contents of the old drives to the new ones. After some tests today, I think the server is doing OK again.

I've come to the conclusion that this might be a good time to investigate a "real" upgrade to the server which would include my buying a new rack-mounted chassis and having the server hosted at a local colocation service. I'm looking into a good 1U server as well as shopping around for a good colocation service here in town right now. More details on that if it happens.

In any case, apologies for any inconvenience you may have had with the server being down. As I wrote above, I'm looking into ways to keep such downtime to a minimum for the future!

Best,

-- Jun

Jun Akiyama Sensei,

Although you fly "under the radar" for most students of Ueshiba Aiki, and of Aikido, you are well appreciated by those of us who recognize the unselfish, painstaking, and invaluable work you do.

Thank you again for your tireless efforts on behalf of maintaining a consistent and valid way station for ideas and timely, and at times, unusual and interesting announcements.

Thank you also for giving those with proven experience, the priceless gift of sharing ideas with those who courageously and respectfully view our postings. We definitely depend on positive feedback for our own growth. inspiration, and connections with the Aikido world at large.

Feel free to call on me personally for any assistance I may give you.

Yes, please consider becoming a contributing member. It only takes a few seconds to do. I don't pay for too many websites, but this one is one that is definitely worth it.
