Re: Video

Nice production quality but perhaps you could change the soundtrack. I found it very distracting.

I liked that fact that he used a junior student for his Uke, rather than yudansha.

Hi Arjan

It's a nice video, but who is the old looking guy with the hair who is demonstrating? I don't recognize him.

Hi Arjan,

I visited you website and I see you are a student of Suganuma Sensei. If you are ever on the West Coast of Canada please come visit our dojo either in Vancouver or on the Sunshine Coast. BTW, Sensei is visiting Vancouver in two weeks.

Cheers,

Russ

Hey Arjan,

I will pass your greetings to Sensei. Yes, April and I were in Fukuoka for a short time before we had children (about 7 years ago). We're thinking of going back for next years enbu kai as, I believe, that will be his 40th anniversary as Shihan for that area......

Cheers,

Russ

During the first technique (suwariwaza nikkyo) you are very far from uke and you seems to do a technique only with your arms - your body is not moving. Also it looks like your concentration is on the wrist of uke instead of his center. You are trying to control him only with a lock, instead of using the weight of your body.

Iriminage - when your attacker is down, his neck is not attached to your shoulder. You have to bend your knees or even to go to suwari waza to be at his level. That is the reason why this technique is not working at all.

Koshinage - your uke is not out of balance. He should be EVERY TIME on his toes before you can throw him.Again - this technique will not work with heavy attacker - and I'm not talking here about countering....

In general, you are not generating power from back foot. Everything looks like going only from shoulders. Your uke are beginners and they are not forcing you to work correctly technically and how to generate real power.Their attacks are weak and they have weak posture.

hope it helps

Re: YouTube Video - "Ima Juku impressie"

Nice video. You bend over from the waste alot or hinge from there. Watch that. especially in the beginning of the video when holding uke down. I am big on newaza so I tend to watch for that and try and take advantage of that when I am taking ukemi.

Thanks for posting!

Re: YouTube Video - "Ima Juku impressie"

Thanks all for the responses!

Looking at myself made me realize there is a lot of work to do! I hope I have some 40 years left (at least!)

This video was taken during a normal lesson so sometimes I tried to make a point to the students. I am editing the shot at this moment to get some shots out of it where that is to obvious (or not)

All the best and until the next video.. (if I dare.... )
