Shrinking a gi?

Hello everyone,

I'm new here as well as completely new to Aikido. Over the past 3 days I have purchased a total of 3 gis, none of which seem to fit me properly.

The gi I currently have is a Judogi which seems to be a bit big for me. The arms are fine, the skirts are too, however it seems large in the waist. I say this because when I put my belt on, it creases in the back. It isn't flat.

I have washed it 3 times now at varying temperatures but am not sure if it's shrinking. I was wondering if you guys had any tips on how I could shrink it down more?

It is a blend of 35% cotton 65% poly.

Please note that I do not own a dryer.

Thank you in advance for your time and answers

Re: Shrinking a gi?

1. Most keikogi even in a hot water wash followed by heated tumble dry will mostly shrink in the *length* due to the nature of how cloth is woven >> how clothing is cut from cloth. So if your problem is width, nothing will really help.
2. Cotton/poly won't shrink.
3. Many of us wear keikogi that "blouse" around the belt (welcome to the world of women martial artists). My question is: how does this affect your training?
