aiki and kids

Hey folks,
I was just thinking back to when I was 10 or so and saw a 20-something vagabond hit one of my friends in the throat, knocking him over. The evasiveness I've learned from Aikido seems to lend itself pretty quickly to something like this (don't get hit = good ), but I'm curious how the skills the IMA folks have been describing might have helped my friend. Do kids have the necessary motor skills to begin developing the internal aiki y'all describe?
