Re: I hate briefs, but...

Well, I don't wear my steel cup at judo comps (I wear a slip on leather/plastic one), but in bjj comps I wear it. I've actually gotten submissions (unintentionally, and intentionally) via steel cup to the spine/arm/face.

LMAO!!! You got a "humping" submission! LOLOLOLOL!!!

On the topic of briefs and boxers, I have always worn boxers and only once had a problem. It was totally my fault, I rolled wrong and slapped the boys with my foot as I rolled .... felt it for a few days. But never had any problems when I did technique correctly.

Yea the coach was like 'Hip in!!!', then he was like, 'not like that, oh god not like that'.

Re: I hate briefs, but...

This too brings back memories. I've really only had one less than comfortable moment and that was also on a koshi. I landed on my side just fine, but my top leg came down too far on the bottom leg, pinching some bits in the middle. I had previous unpleasantness with knees and ankles knocking, but this was obviously much worse. Since then, I've learned to keep that top leg from knocking on the bottom to save the knees, ankles, and everything else.

I'm not sure it's permitted in the rules of judo to wear a hard cup. I sure wouldn't want to be the official tasked with checking.

Haven't had much involvement in judo since 1979, actually, but back then and probably today anything metal (mainly in reference to knee braces) was not permitted... However, I managed to go 8 years in judo, (about 3 years of that was 6 days/week) without anything other than me under the gi pants and without any significant slams to the family jewels. Or maybe I just can't remember - I am getting old, after all...
