Smile George Smith - Jamaica

Hello to all of you, the aikiweb community. I would like to introduce myself; I am known as George & I train with the dojo in Kingston, Jamaica where our chief instructor is Izumi sensei. We are ‘under the umbrella' of the Barbados Aikido Federation (as we basically operate as a Caribbean community with aikidokas from St Lucia as well).
It has been a pleasure training with my friends here in Jamaica although being a young dojo among the international aikido community.
I have had very little exposure to aikido up to the time I met Izumi sensei in Barbados in the summer of 2003 where I was "intensively" introduce to the art of which I'm truly now grateful. Other experience in martial art includes my long years studying shotokan karate (JKA) -- which have given a sound foundation in paying attention to details and a taste of budo.
I now anxiously await the next step in my journey in understanding aikido and anxiously for my next class.

George

Re: George Smith - Jamaica

Hi George,

I'm happy to hear that training is still going strong in Jamaica. The last time I saw Izumi Sensei (last October) we spoke at length about the dojo in Jamaica and St. Lucia and how things were coming along.

Welcome to Aikiweb and keep up the dedication and good work. Izumi Sensei is often online here these days. Did you get a chance to purchase his first training DVD yet?

Regards.

While enjoying the wonderful London weather (sic) I muse on calling for a ban on these people who come from beautiful climes on general principals - aikido and enjoying good weather should be an athema...

Hi George, hope you have fun and if you don't do a Larry and post aikido in the sun pictures you should get on fine here.

I think that George would agree that the weather's great until a hurricane comes...
