Side-step in throw in MMA
Thought a few of the people on the board would get a kick out of this. Lyoto Machida pulled off a pretty slick side-step in throw/sukuinage in a UFC bout recently. FYI about Machida, he trains in Thai Boxing and BJJ now like everyone else, but his background is Shotokan Karate. He actually still credits it with his sense of timing and how he approaches fights. That being said he is often accused of being a boring fighter because his style still resembles point sparring and he wins the majority of his fights on decision. Still, he's 11-0 and this was pretty slick.

Edit: forgot to mention he nailed this on Nakamura, who is one of Hidehiko Yoshida's(Olympic judo gold medalist & MMA fighter) top students, which makes it double awesome.

Re: Side-step in throw in MMA
That was sweet, wasn't it? This is one of the aiki type throws that I find works well under resistance, against strikes, kicks and grabs. Between the Daito ryu, Aikido, and Judo versions, always plenty to work with.
Good observation Keith!
Best,
Ron
