IMHO, only from a competent teacher. Intellectual understanding is easy, almost all the books have it. To learn it, practice.

The Center

About the center, Tanden, I wrote a text on my website:
http://www.stenudd.com/aikido/tanden.htm
It includes some exercises that I have found useful for my students. Maybe center breathing is a good start. So is bokken suburi.
