Learning to read energy

Which role ,uke or nage, had the most siginfigance in teaching you to read energy?

As Uke you learn how to read energy and get where you're being taken safely.

As Nage you learn to read to the energy given and change\redirect it to perform a techinque.

Your ability to read and manipulate the energy is directly related to your success in both roles. So which role actaully teaches it to you?

I put my right foot in, I put my left foot out, I do the Aikipokey and throw you all about

Re: Learning to read energy

I would say weapons practice. In particular, bokken; was the most helpful for me (and remains to be).

Re: Learning to read energy

You gain insights from both aspects....( and weapons as well)
I personally learn more from feeling the technique through ukemi. Your milage may vary, of course.

Play nice, practice hard, but remember, this is a MARTIAL art!

Re: Learning to read energy

I think I expirince more energy reading while I am uke.

To speak ill of anything is against the nature of Aikido

Re: Learning to read energy

If the interaction is a true blending, you're going to experience input and feedback in either role.
