Pelosi's jet dilemma

This is pretty bad, but very typical.

http://jetjit.com/pelosi.htm?gclid=C...FRbjYAodm0JYsg

You know, being in congress used to be a part-time job. They used to only be in session for 8-10 months out of 24 months. Not anymore. Now they get paid $162,000 a year plus all the perks, and are causing trouble in DC basically all year.

When a LearJet provided free to you courtesy of US taxpayers isn't good enough, you have just taken elitism to the next level!

Your site says, "Vice -President Cheney flies on a C-32, and apparently Pelosi thinks she deserves the same."

Yahoo! points out that Pelosi is now second in order of succession to the Presidency, just after Cheney. The House Sergeant at Arms, in charge of security for the Speaker, suggested that she should be flying non-stop on visits home. Apparently, the Lear jet could get Hastert home non-stop, but it won't go Washington to SF.

Anyway, the White House calls it much ado about nothing. Presidential spokesman Tony Snow said, "This is a silly story and I think it's been unfair to the speaker."

Maybe she'll start throwing TV sets out of hotel windows.

So long as she avoids shooting anyone in the face while duckhunting from her car, she's good.

Re: Pelosi's jet dilemma

Well, two weeks has shown us that Pelosi did not request the plane, it was the WH Sargeant at Arms who requested the plane for security reasons, and the GOP member who pushed it so hard to the press has come out and admitted he didn't know if the story was true before he announced it, nor did he care. His comment was that they needed something to turn the press around after the Foley scandal.
That politics is some dirty stuff.

Re: Pelosi's jet dilemma

The motivation behind my post had nothing to do with Republicans v. Democrats. I take everything that politicians from these parties say and do with a grain of salt, because most of it is political posturing.

It wasn't about Pelosi specifically (just an example). Nor does it matter who recommended or requested the jet. If it costs $900/hr or $22000/hr it bothers me just the same. The vast majority of our politicians are elitists. We foot the bill while they make decisions about what we can and cannot do. I think there is something distinctly anti-American about all of this. Thomas Jefferson used to answer the front door at the White House himself . . . in his slippers!

I don't mind people living extravagant lifestyles as long as they pay for it themselves. I have no problem with people thinking that they are better than me as long as they don't force their morals on me. Unfortunately, for most of our politicians neither of these is true.
